Happy Chanukah!

Here in Vancouver the days have become frighteningly short. We are sitting in the headquarters of Ayala Moriel Parfums and savouring the growing light in front of our 2 family menorahs* and marveling at the many wonderful fragrant friendships, amazing students, some of whom also helped me achieve the impossible and get my book published!
So much generousity, creativity, and lots of support for my fragrant art in the past year. I'm very grateful, and sending you all love and light.

Happy Chanukah to all of SmellyBlog readers who are celebrating!

* I finally bought one for my daughter, because she turned 18 this year.

Happy Chanukah!

Dreidel Gingerbread
Happy Chanukah!
May your 8 days be filled with light, warmth and happiness.

We baked and decorated gingerbread cookies for the first time ever today, and this is the result - dreidel gingerbreads!
Thanks to Laurie Erickson's mom for the perfect recipe! Never thought gingerbreads would be so easy to make and melt-in-your-mouth delicious :-)

This year we will continue with more oils to complete the series we began a couple of years back - 8 Exquisite Oils for Health & Beauty.
Although, in all honesty, there are probably going to be more oils than just 8 to explore and discover uses for both nutrition and cosmetics/body care. This year we'll discuss sesame oil, argan oil and avocado oil. We'll also feature a few favourite candles we're burning this season.

May this 8-day holiday be filled with light and warmth, both physically and metaphorically speaking.

Personally, I like the laid-back atmosphere of this holiday (perhaps not so much so in North America, where it has to compete in extravagance with Christmas). Where I grew up, this is just a week like any other week, except that every night there is a party with candle lighting and some fried good. Sometimes it's a small party (just the family) and sometimes it's a little bigger within the community (i.e.: school parties, etc.). It's all about gathering around the lights and enjoying each others' company.

P.s. My apologies for my late greetings; I've been deeply involved with getting my little Holiday Soiree together for last night (which was a lot of fun). It required enormous amounts of cookie baking and truffle rolling... That in the end I got a friend to the rescue to fry the latkes! Now I'm looking forward to nearly 3 lazy weeks with my daughter during her winter holiday from school.
